Relaxer update! (Overdue)

I finally touched up on Wednesday 5th September at 18 ½  weeks was just four days shy of making a 19 week stretch and I got the texlaxed results I wanted yay! I am so happy I think I have finally figured this texlaxing thing out. Initially I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to differentiate my new growth from my previously texlaxed hair but on closer inspection under natural light (sunlight through the window) it was easy to differentiate, my new growth had tighter curls while the previously texlaxed hair had wavy looser curls. I used ORS Olive Oil No Lye Relaxer kit in Normal strength just like the last time I think I will be sticking to this relaxer I just hope they don’t drastically change the formula or something.

I did a couple of things differently this time round; I only used about ¾ of the contents of the activator bottle for a full tub of box kit relaxer and went back to starting from the back like I used to; in my last touch up in April I started from the front which I had never done before and the back was severely under processed. The back half of my head takes much longer than the front to process and I just reconfirmed this with this relaxer session so back start always from now on it is. Since the back was severely under processed the last time I did a corrective on that section by intentionally overlapping the relaxer onto the previously under processed hair.

This is the texture that I got after rinsing and I love it! Not too straight and not too curly just right!
I added about a tablespoon of olive oil to weaken the relaxer I had the relaxer on my head for 15 minutes and  still got texlaxed results. In the past when I used Dark and Lovely No Lye relaxer kit in regular strength my fine hair would be bone straight in less than 15 minutes. I retained about 1 and a half inches in some places and 2 inches in some. I still haven't gotten round to taking length check photos despite finally making a length check top because I haven't had time to get my hair straightened since making the top and didn't want to postpone publishing this post any longer but I will do so before I go into protective style mode again in a few weeks and post them here.

  8. Why did you only use 3/4 of the activator? Is that how you ensure that your hair texlaxed instead of bone straight relaxed? Personally I throw in a couple of tablespoons of natural oil to the already mixed relaxer. Not to get a texlax texture, but I'm not the fastest worker, it buys me a few extra minutes as it weakens the relaxer mix.

    1. Yes that was the reason for using only 3/4 of the activator. The very first time I texlaxed I used the entire contents of the activator bottle and noticed that my hair was getting "done" very fast while I still hadn't finished applying relaxer to the back section. The results this time round were much better and I also added oils to the relaxer as well. I too am not a very fast worker and anything that slows down the process is welcomed by me especially since my crown area takes to the relaxer faster than the back area of my head.
