Henna Wash Day!

I had a henna wash day with a twist when it came to application. I mixed my henna with cold black tea and a teaspoon of white vinegar to aid in dye release then transferred the contents into my applicator bottle and let it sit overnight for the dye to release. Yes you read right I used an applicator bottle to apply my henna and I am beating myself up for not having done it sooner. This was the least messy henna application I have ever had! Win! If you have ever had body art henna applied then you know the manufactured henna paste comes in a tube with a nozzle like tip for application and the homemade mixes are usually transferred into a cone usually plastic or some type of hard paper cone. I used this same theory for my henna hair application and it worked like a charm.

I snipped off the narrow tip to make a wider tip since my henna mix was slightly thick
Anyway application done I let the henna sit for two hours one of which I used to work out and then proceeded to rinse, I love working out while deep conditioning the body heat really does help the conditioner do it’s magic. I rinsed the henna off for what seemed like eons then shampooed twice to get rid of any henna residue left over. As much as henna strengthens my hair it also leaves it dry and feeling like straw, so I applied my ORS replenishing conditioner to bring back the softness and let it sit for about five minutes under a shower cap as I got down on my knees to scrub the bathroom; henna leaves my bathroom looking like a crime scene I tell ya! Bathroom clean I proceeded to rinse off the conditioner which also acted as a detangling conditioner. Towel tried for a few minutes until damp then blow dried on cool, oiled scalp with my castor oil mix, moisturized, sealed and I was done.

  1. I really need to get back into henna! I always love it so much but I am so reluctant to redo the long process! The applicator bottle seems like a great idea. I may be up for trying it out :)

  2. I have never tried henna before because mixing it up seems so complicated...and messy, what kind of benefits do you see from using it?

    1. Oh really? You should give it a try the first time will be messy that I can promise you lol but it gets better with time. I personally use henna to strengthen and thicken my strands since I have thin fine hair and it does actually work as I have experienced less breakage with henna. It is also said to help with dandruff, shedding and also aids in covering any greys one may have among a host of other benefits.

    2. Oh and mixing it up need not be complicated you can actually use it on its own if you don't want too much colour but if you do add some lemon or vinegar to aid with the dye release. Henna can be mixed with plain water, cold black tea and even yoghurt it's whatever you want really.

  3. The applicator bottle is such a good idea for preventing a mess. I would love to try henna or cassia sometime.

  4. I haven't used ORS replenishing pak in forever. Henna is so foreign to me right now and yes it always looks so messy but your applicator bottle tip is a wonderful idea.

  7. I just had a henna wash day a couple of weeks ago. I say put a trash bag on your counters and it makes clean up super easy. I've used henna so long that I don't make hardly any mess but just in case, I use a trash bag to save me from bleaching and scrubbing later.

    1. Thanks Tiki I love the trash bag idea I usually use newspapers on the floor and counters during application but I think trash bags are way better thanks for this! The mess I was cleaning up was from rinsing in the shower, had henna all over the shower wall but application was almost mess-less. Thanks for stopping by:)
