Braids Wash Day!

My scalp was itching so I decided to wash my protective styled hair today as opposed to next Sunday as planned. I usually shampoo wash my braids every two weeks unless I am doing intense very sweaty high impact cardio throughout the week then I wash weekly.  I have had these twists in for about a week and a half now. This is how it went down:

  • I filled up my spray bottle with some ORS creamy aloe shampoo about a quarter way full and then diluted it the rest of the way with tap water the mix was three quarter way full in my spray bottle.
  • Stood under running shower to get braids wet
  • Turned off the water and generously sprayed shampoo mix on my scalp massaged the shampoo into my scalp and braids.
  • Rinsed that off, repeated the process and this time sprayed the remaining shampoo mix in my spray bottle on the length of my braids and then rinsed again.
Now normally I don’t condition braids because I always use a leave in conditioner mix after shampooing on braids wash days but I was trying to use up this almost finished conditioner so I can have a genuine excuse to buy one more conditioner:)

  • I did the same thing with the conditioner like I did shampoo; poured some into my spray bottle halfway through and then diluted the rest with tap water and then sprayed generously on my scalp and braids. I tied up the hair in a bun as I finished off my other shower activities.
  • Rinsed off the conditioner and towel turbaned the braids until damp.
  • Sprayed on my Crème of Nature Argan oil strength and shine leave in conditioner and then let the braids air dry and that was my braids/twist wash day. I am so in love with this leave in I have hardly touched my other one since I got it.

Not to confuse anyone my hair is currently in two strand twists with extensions aka Senegalese twists not box braids for some reason I always end up saying braids even when I am in twists but you guys the picture:)

Fitness Fridays: April Regimen

This is my fitness regimen for April;

I made very great progress the last time I did Jillian Michaels 30 day shred consistently for the 30 days so I am getting back on it but only for two days a week this time on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

On Mondays and Wednesdays I do Hip Hop Abs Hips, Buns and Thighs with Shaun T.  You can purchase the full DVD collection online if interested.

I also stumbled upon this young lady Keaira LaShae on YouTube who has amazing intense fun dance workouts that I will be incorporating into my fitness regimen every Friday this April. I realized quite early on in my fitness journey that I got bored really quick doing the same routine for an entire week/month so I switched things up and do different workouts during the week that keep me interested and motivated.

I am going back to swimming once a week this April which may or may not be on Saturday mornings haven’t decided on the day and time yet but I will most definitely try to go swimming once a week the entire month.

Frugal Fridays

Today’s Frugal Friday tip if you are not already doing so is to save money by buying just one bottle of kitchen quality oil and borrowing from that to use on your hair. So if you cook with or have other culinary uses for oil that can also be used on the hair no need to buy two different brands for hair and kitchen just buy one bottle and use that for both.

Henna Wash Day!

I decided to get my long overdue long term protective style done the other day at 2 weeks post relaxer. To prepare my hair for the braiding process I did a henna treatment for strength on Sunday evening. I mixed my henna with about ½ cup black tea, ¼ cup plain yoghurt and since I had some avocado in the house I mashed half a small one into the mixture and added a few drops of lemon juice, let it sit for about four hours for the dye to release before application. I had previously prepooed my hair with olive oil and once ready I applied the henna same way you would apply a deep conditioner let it sit for about one and a half hours before rinsing it off. When fully rinsed I shampooed using TRESemme naturals shampoo, detangled with Enliven Raspberry and Red Apple conditioner, and then patted my hair dry. I then sprayed Crème of Nature Strength and Shine leave in conditioner onto my hair, applied coconut oil and let my hair air dry for about two hours before moisturizing, applying castor oil mix on scalp and then blow dried on cool to stretch the hair in readiness for my twists installation. The next day it was off to the braiding salon to get my twists installed; I plan to keep them in for 4-6 weeks and will take care of them using my braids regimen found on this page. By the way I have been getting a lot of compliments lately on the colour of my hair which is more visible in natural light, you can hardly see it in photos taken indoors; so I have to keep telling people that is henna applied consistently over time not box dye:)
